Robert Coleman | BA (Hons) CGI and Visual Effects
Specialism – Environment/ VFX Artist / DMP
Rob Coleman’s final year has seen him develop into a exceptional environment and matte paint artist, with a strong focus on architectural visualisation and cinematic worldbuilding. Over the summer, he worked as a visualisation assistant at Foster + Partners, contributing to bid videos for large-scale megaprojects—an experience that gave him an incredible insight into industry workflows and large-scale environment production. Rob also presented his work independently to a professional audience at 3D London and has consistently demonstrated professionalism and collaboration, often working with film students and contributing feedback to peers through regular participation in Rushes.
His final major project centres on two large-scale environmental pieces: a rooftop architectural cityscape and a cinematic natural landscape (both are amazing!). Drawing inspiration from artists like Steffen Hampel and guided by methodologies from ILM's environment leads, Rob has built a production pipeline focused on iteration, feedback, and cinematic storytelling (no surprise given Rob's participation in Rushes).
The rooftop city environment showcases architectural design and function using GIS data workflows and 3ds Max/V-Ray, while the cinematic landscape combines Kitbash3D assets with procedural techniques to evoke narrative depth and scale. His project blends technical strength with visual storytelling—demonstrating the skills expected of an environment generalist entering the industry.  He has been the most incredible student with us and we can't wait to have him back (no doubt to give industry talks).
