Morgan Ridges |  BA (Hons) CGI and Visual Effects
Specialism – Technical Artist / TD
Another of this year’s success stories, Morgan Ridges has emerged as one of this year’s standout FX specialists—combining a passion for procedural simulation with a sharp technical mindset. With an IMDb credit for Apocalypse Box and having produced a stunning procedural ice simulation for Red-X, Morgan’s final year has been defined by an ambitious focus on scalable, dynamic systems and a clear aptitude for building flexible pipelines.
His Final Major Project comprises four advanced Houdini-based simulations, each targeting a specific technical challenge: a cloth tearing system using vellum, a custom rigid body pipeline for complex LEGO assemblies, a VEX-driven planetary impact simulation, and a large-scale structural collapse with secondary dust generation. These projects showcase his iterative approach, solver experimentation, and deep engagement with FX workflows.
Morgan’s work is grounded in a research-led process and a strong visual understanding of real-world physics, particularly in fluid dynamics, rigid body interaction, and particle behaviour. His deep dive into Houdini solvers—including FLIP, pyro, MPM, vellum, and RBD—reflects his long-term goal of working in simulation-heavy feature animation or VFX pipelines.
As he enters industry, Morgan leaves us as a technically advanced FX artist with a growing body of procedural, scalable, and production-aware work—ready to take on increasingly complex simulation roles.
