Morgan Ridges |  BA (Hons) CGI and Visual Effects
Specialism – Technical Artist / TD
Another of this year’s success stories and already employed by a studio for technical art work, Morgan Ridges has developed into a rather awesome FX artist with a passion for procedural simulation and technical problem solving. With an IMDb credit for Apocalypse Box and a standout procedural ice effect created in Houdini for Red-X, Morgan’s final year has been defined by a sharp focus on dynamic simulation work and an clear skill for building scalable pipelines!
Morgan’s work is built around four advanced Houdini projects, each designed to interrogate specific solvers or workflows. These include a cloth tearing system using vellum, a custom rigid body pipeline for complex LEGO assemblies, a VEX-driven impact simulation for planetary destruction, and a large-scale architectural collapse with secondary dust generation. Each was approached with an emphasis on iteration, solver exploration, and pipeline adaptability—qualities that reflect Morgan’s technical mindset and long-term goal of specialising in FX simulation.
With a clear interest in fluid dynamics, particle systems and rigid body interaction—particularly as used in fully animated features—Morgan’s work blends a research-led approach with a strong eye for physical realism and control. Houdini has been central throughout, enabling detailed investigations into solvers such as FLIP, MPM, pyro and RBD. Now already in industry, Morgan leaves Solent as a technically focused FX artist with strong future potential.
