alachy Gavin is an exceptionally hard worker and a very technically creative artist, boasting a solid skillset in Blender and across a range of visual effects areas. His keen eye for detail extends to his strong understanding of topology and excellent modelling skills, especially as a prop artist.
For his Final Major Project, Malachy has taken on the challenge of developing his hard surface modelling skills in new software like Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter. He's exploring diverse styles inspired by iconic titles such as Transformers, The Last of Us, and Horizon, all driven by his research into industry demands for 3D hard surface modelling. To engage professionally with the wider 3D artist community and gather feedback, he's even disseminated some of his work on platforms like The Rookies and LinkedIn.
His project culminates in an impressive scene inspired by The Upgrade Desk from Bloodborne, with a strong emphasis on clean topology and detailed texturing. Building on the lessons from mini-projects that honed his skills on assets like Aloy’s Champion Spear and Joel’s Flamethrower, Malachy is tackling the challenge of populating the desk with numerous intricate props while maintaining efficient topology. His focus on gathering extensive reference images for both modelling and texturing, coupled with his iterative approach to lighting and framing, ensures his final renders capture the unique gothic and melancholic atmosphere of Bloodborne. Malachy's dedication to continuous learning and his ability to implement feedback from rushes sessions make him a highly promising 3D artist specializing in hard surface modelling for environments and props.
