Specialism – 3d Artist
Leon Saungsomboon's FMP aimed to develop his skills throughout the year across a range of technical and supporting production roles. With excellent interpersonal skills alongside his own natural ability, Leon proposed three testing projects: learning Autodesk Maya, traditional art studies, and artistic composition for photography.
Alongside developing a Maya based Skillset, the second project focused on traditional art, emphasizing the importance of visual communication through iterative sketching and peer feedback, before approaching the third project which involved studying composition in photography.  The main FMP element involved creating a landscape diorama demonstrating artistic and technical 3D modeling skills. Following an industry-standard pipeline, he gathered references, pre-visualized designs, and then moved to production using 3DS Max and Unreal Engine 5. The project emphasized the theme of "Humanity’s reaction to the unknown," portraying a natural creature juxtaposed with human-made elements to convey intimidation and conflict.
Throughout the year, Leon has engaged with industry professionals, attending events like the Guildford Games festival and consulting with developers to gain insights and feedback, helping shape his project and career goals. His work demonstrated his adaptability and dedication to improving his employability in the gaming industry.

"In parallel with texturing the giant creature, to make sure the pose was in the correct place, rigging the model would also be necessary. Rigging a character, blending weights and applying a skeleton is a skillset that was lacking however, so a new system needed to be found. To solve this problem, research was done, and it was discovered that Maya provides an easy auto-rig system for characters."
