Blue Wolny has been one of our most imaginative and dedicated storytellers in this year's Digital Arts cohort — bringing together 2D art, game design, and narrative writing into a beautifully realised visual novel project. With a clear creative voice and a strong grasp of the technical demands of solo game development, Blue’s final major project is a great example of what can be achieved when artistic vision meets focused, structured production.
Drawing inspiration from artists like David Ardinaryas Lojaya and Angela He—alongside the world-building depth of Alan Lee and John Howe—Blue’s work centres on expressive character design, emotionally resonant storytelling, and intuitive, immersive UI design. Blue's approach bridges the gap between art and narrative, with each design decision serving the player’s emotional experience.
The project itself is a fully playable demo built in Ren’Py, developed through a series of focused sprints covering character sprite design, backgrounds, interface elements, and writing. Blue’s ability to take feedback on board and work iteratively has been a real asset throughout, with each pass adding clarity, polish, and depth to the player experience.
With plans to continue development beyond graduation, Blue’s visual novel already demonstrates the storytelling potential and 2D skillset needed in indie games. They’re a thoughtful, technically capable artist with a passion for creating games that connect emotionally—and they’ve got a great foundation to keep building on.
