Specialism – Concept Artist/ Illustrator
An illustration featuring a combination of the “Furi” 2D and 3D artstyle. It displays the main character “The Stranger” in an actual scene from the game but reimagines it as an additional part of the games story. Adaptability is a key element in working for the industry and this image demonstrates adaptability through working with different techniques, doing full on cell shading and changing styles from semi realism to something more stylized.
This final major project will feature a variety of 2D work in the illustration and concept art field. Two unique styles of illustrative techniques will be tested to show diversity and adaptability to employers from the games industry. The first artwork revolves around a stylized artstyle inspired by a game called “Furi” (The Game Bakers, 2016). Additionally, the project is also going to have an illustration showing off the highest standard the artist can render a 2D artwork. Since sketching and the quick generating of ideas is crucial in the industry as well, another piece of art features a full character design including all relevant stages, a finished render, and a turnaround model sheet.
“As important as the palette of the character are the shapes. Therefore, mostly spikey, and triangular shapes were used to make the design look aggressive and threatening. Even when introducing shapes into the design, which were not that triangular, the shapes were given sharp edges to enhance the idea of a character you would not like to approach.”
